Idea for August 2024: transnational education
…or TNE, not that the education world needs any more three-letter abbreviations. I came across the term recently, and it’s useful for me now as my niece has just started a year in Lund, Sweden, as part of her four-year geography degree at Manchester. So now I know she’s doing TNE. Universities UK defines it as ‘education delivered in a country other than the country in which the awarding institution is based’, but the British Council gives it a broader scope, including distance learning, offshore campuses and MOOCs, Certainly most learners on my Secret Power of Brands MOOC aren’t in the UK. Anyway, it’s a buzzword now as it offers new revenues for cash-strapped UK universities. More importantly, it has to be a good thing for peace and understanding. I can’t wait to get my niece’s take on it all. Photo of Lund by Nicholas Gould on Unsplash.
