Idea for January 2021: zoonotic

My idea of the month is zoonotic.

Zoonotic diseases are those transmitted from animals to humans. COVID-19 is an example. We’re going to hear the word a lot more this year – and how it connects with the larger climate crisis. As The Lancet says, ‘The climate emergency and COVID-19, a zoonotic disease, are both borne of human activity that has led to environmental degradation’.

My image of the month, though, is more cheerful.

We bought this picture on eBay, and we know very little about it. But I love its suggestion of a winter feast to come. And the composition – all that extra space above the figure. And the glinting light.
